New Identity: Who Does God Say You Are?

Names and identity matter. For youth, understanding who they are is a journey, but the need for identity doesn’t stop there—parents and older generations also need a clear view of who they are in Christ. Without it, we risk living in a way that doesn’t align with the name He has given us!

But here’s the truth: God calls us by name.

You Are His!

Isaiah 43:1-2 says,
"Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine."

What an incredible thought! The Creator of the universe sees you as precious, sought after, and known. Through Jesus’ sacrifice, we are given a new nature—a new identity—as children of God.

You Are a Masterpiece

In a world filled with conflicting messages about who we are and who we should be, we need to look to the ultimate Authority—God’s Word.

Ephesians 2:10 (NLT) reminds us,
"For we are His masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago."

Let that sink in for a moment.

You are a masterpiece. More valuable to God than the most priceless artwork ever created. He formed you, preserves you, and loves you perfectly. You are significant because the God of all creation says you are.

Claim Your True Identity

Isaiah 43:1-5 tells us:

  • You are redeemed – God has bought you back at a great price.

  • You are called by name – He knows you personally.

  • You are His – You belong to Him, secure in His love.

  • You are never alone – He promises to be with you through every trial.

With these truths, how can we allow the world, the enemy, or even our own doubts to tell us otherwise? We must reject false labels and characterize ourselves only by what God says about us.

Action Step: Align Yourself with God’s Truth

God’s words over you are powerful, but you must claim them as your own. Take time today to write down affirmations that align with who God says you are. Here are a few to get you started:

  • I am a child of God (John 1:12).

  • I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).

  • I am deeply loved by God (Romans 8:38-39).

  • I am chosen and set apart (1 Peter 2:9).

Now, take a bold step: Speak these truths over yourself daily!
