Family Celebrating Easter

How to Celebrate Easter As A Christian Family

April 20, 20252 min read

Easter can easily become another busy holiday. Between church services, family dinners, egg hunts, and trying to get everyone dressed in white without stains… you’ll agree with me that it’s a lot.

But deep down, you want more than cute pictures and chocolate bunnies.
You want your family to actually
feel the weight and beauty of what Easter is all about.
You want your kids to understand the resurrection, not just the celebration because to be honest, it is so easy to get drowned in all the noise.

So, how do you slow it down and make Easter truly meaningful as a Christian family, asides attending a Good Friday and Easter Sunday service?

1. Talk about the Cross in simple, honest ways

Kids understand more than we think. Have age-appropriate conversations about why Jesus died and what it means that He rose again.
You don’t need to be a pastor, you don’t need a seminary degree. All you need is just your heart and honesty.

2. Make time for worship at home

Before the Easter rush begins, make out time to worship together. Sing resurrection songs. Read the Easter story in Luke or John. Let everyone share what the story means to them, even if it’s messy and imperfect.

Remember, it doesn’t have to be perfect, it just needs to be real.

3. Focus more on meaning than matching

It’s okay to dress up, look good and all of that, but don’t let appearances overshadow purpose. Let your kids know Easter isn’t about looking perfect. It’s about remembering what Jesus did and celebrating that He’s alive.

4. Serve or give as a family

Easter is about selfless love, which involves doing something for others.

Instead of just receiving, what if you gave together? Whether it’s donating Easter baskets, volunteering at a food bank, writing encouraging cards, making a small care package for neighbors, visiting someone who’s lonely, or giving time to a local shelter, do something together as a family. It teaches your kids that the resurrection leads us to love others and it’s also a great way to embody the heart of Jesus.

5. Keep Jesus at the center—gently, consistently

It doesn’t have to be intense or dramatic. Just gentle reminders throughout the weekend:
“This is why we celebrate.”
“This is why we’re grateful.”
“This is why we have hope.”

In conclusion, in all the excitement, it’s easy to miss the heart of Easter. But as a Christian family, we’re called to make much of Jesus, not just in church, but also in our homes. Let this Easter be a time when your family grows closer to each other and to Christ.
